Northwood Surges Past Sage Hill Thanks to Big Second Inning

Northwood Varsity Timberwolves defeated Sage Hill Varsity Lightning 8-1 on Wednesday thanks in part to six runs in the second inning.  Paul Grossman doubled, scoring one run, Colin Carlson singled, scoring two runs, Joseph Harper tripled, scoring one run, Carter Liu singled, scoring one run, and Ethan Tsou hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

 

Northwood Varsity Timberwolves got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Sage Hill Varsity Lightning committed an error, and Liu hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

 

Liu stepped on the mound first for Northwood Varsity Timberwolves. The lefty gave up one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one. Rigley started the game for Sage Hill Varsity Lightning. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and eight runs (six earned) over one inning, striking out one and walking three. Spencer Collins-Williams tossed one inning of shutout ball for Northwood Varsity Timberwolves in relief. The southpaw gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking one.

 

Northwood Varsity Timberwolves tallied 10 hits in the game. Bert Chubb and Carlson each collected two hits for Northwood Varsity Timberwolves. Liu and Carlson each drove in two runs for Northwood Varsity Timberwolves. Koji Yoshimizu stole two bases. Northwood Varsity Timberwolves stole four bases in the game.

 

Jared Stroner and Dylan Dolotta each collected one hit for Sage Hill Varsity Lightning. Dolotta went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Sage Hill Varsity Lightning turned one double play in the game.

 

Northwood Varsity Timberwolves will travel to Sage Hill for their next game on Friday.
