TIMBERWOLVES LOSE TO IRVINE IN 8TH INNING 5-4

With the loss to the Irvine Vaqueros, Northwood’s Pacific Coast League record is 5 - 9 and its overall season record is 15 - 10. The two teams meet again this Thursday May 10, 2018 at Irvine at 3:30 PM to close out the PCL season.

 

Vaqueros Draw First Blood

After three scoreless innings, Irvine scored three runs in the top of the 3rd. With two on and one out, Chris Schwent smashed a triple scoring both base runners. The next batter, David Schofield, drove Schwent home with a single to make the score 3-0. The Vaqueros added another run in the 4th inning on two costly errors by Northwood infielders.   

 

Timberwolves Come Alive in the 6th Inning

Trailing 4-0, Ely Stuart led off the 6th inning with a double that bounced over the fence in left center. Julian Tristan walked. Trevor Littlejohn drove Stuart home with a double to right center field. Ben Berkel followed with a single to drive in Tristan. Littlejohn scored on a wild pitch. The T’Wolves tied the game at 4 on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Rodriguez.   

 

Irvine Wins in 8th Inning

In the first extra inning, with one out and a batter on first, as result hit batter, Chris Schwent got his third RBI on his second extra base hit, double down the right field line scoring Jacob Blanket for what became the winning run. 


Game Stats

Northwood starting pitcher, Tristan was responsible for four (4) Irvine runs (3 earned) on five hits, stranded (4), struck out three (3) walked one (1), and hit one (1) batter in five and a third innings. Reliever Arthur Liu, with two runners on base by virtue of the two errors, pitched thru the 6th inning yielding no hits.  Justin Bonnell had no trouble in the 7th inning but yielded the winning run in the 8th.      

 

The Timberwolves’ four runs came on five hits. Littlejohn had two hits - a double and single, Stuart got a double, Berkel had a single and Rodriguez had a single.

 

Northwood committed seven errors in the game. Fortunately, only the two errors in the 4th inning resulted in an Irvine run.

 

Before this last home game the 14 Timberwolf seniors were recognized.
