Northwood’s baseball team had its game with Foothill rained out on Wednesday.
There is no word on when the Beach Pit Classic game will be made up.
Northwood did win two of three games at the tournament, winning 10-3 on Tuesday over Calabasas.
Northwood defeated Newport Harbor, 7-4, in the opener, scoring three times in the first inning on four consecutive hits. Senior Steven Horrell relieved in the first inning and went on to earn his first win of the season. Horrell pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing one earned run on two hits. “It was the end of a great week for Steven,” said Coach Rob Stuart. “He pitched 9 2/3 innings this week which has never been done here at Northwood. We ran into trouble in league and he was the guy who wanted the ball and when we got down early today he said he felt great and he was great."
Jake Hoffman pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing one hit. He was relieved by Jack Pabich who came in to get the save.
"Our pitchers really battled, we only allowed 3 hits after the rough start and our hitters really clutched up," Stuart said.
Northwood broke the game open in the sixth with four runs all with two outs. James Clothier’s two-run double in the sixth inning proved to be the game winner.
Ryan Wong and Jake Hoffman led Northwood with two hits.
“It a team effort every player in the lineup had a hit or an RBI,” Stuart said.
Northwood also lost to Chino Hills, 3-0.
Chino Hills starter Bailey Falter limited Northwood to four hits on 12 strikeouts. Northwood’s Jake Hoffman pitched very well in the loss allowing three runs, two earned on seven hits.
“Jake pitched with a lot of heart,” Stuart said. “Take away two bloops an infield single and an error and we are tied 0-0. He was very good. It was a good ball game their pitcher was one of the best we’ve seen all year."
Luke Poirier, Ryan Wong Jordan Gisch and Michael Tran all singled for Northwood.
