Northwood's baseball team captured its second game in three outings at the Beach Pit Barbecue Classic, defeating Calabasas, 10-3, Tuesday afternoon at Newport Harbor.

The Timberwolves (8-7 overall) banged out 12 hits in support of winning pitcher Jack Pabich, who pitched the first 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, two earned. Pabich (3-2) scattered seven hits.

Steven Horrell came on in the sixth to blank Calabasas the rest of the way.

"It was a good day for baseball," Northwood Coach Rob Stuart said.

Northwood had plenty of offensive contributions, led by lead-off hitter Ojo Weiss, who went 3 for 3 with two runs scored, two doubles and an RBI. He also had an outstanding defensive play in the seventh.

Weiss, who normally is in right field, played first base in place of Alex King, who pulled a hamstring earlier in the tournament making a defensive play.

"He's hit a lot of balls hard this year," Stuart said of Weiss. "Guys pitch him tough and he came through big for us. It was nice to see him get some hits today. You can't say he's been struggling, he just hasn't had a lot of luck."

Plenty of Timberwolves did their part in the victory Tuesday.

James Clothier was 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored, Ryan Wong had and RBI single in the first inning and three runs scored on his misplayed fly ball in left field in the third inning.

Matt Locklear had two hits and two RBI and a run scored, Jordan Gisch had a single and scored a run and Michael Tran had a double and scored a run.

"It was a good win, we had a lot of guys who came in and showed that they have potential," Stuart said.

The game was tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the third when Northwood took advantage of two singles, a walk and an error to score three runs.

Calabasas scored a run in the fourth inning but the Timberwolves countered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Weiss and a sacrifice fly by Clothier.

Locklear's RBI double in the fifth drove home Tran, who had doubled, giving the Timberwolves a 7-3 lead.

Northwood added three more runs in the sixth, capitalizing on two errors to make it 10-3. Pinch-hitter Max Gleit capped the inning with a two-run single.

The Timberwolves were coming off a 3-0 loss to Chino Hills on Monday. The Timberwolves were held to four hits.

Northwood opened the tournament on Saturday, defeating Newport Harbor, 7-4.

Horrell pitched 4 2/3 innings to record his first victory of the year. Clothier hit a two-out two run double in the sixth inning to give Northwood the lead in the sixth inning.

Pabich then came on in the seventh inning to earn the save.
