Northwood High’s baseball team has opened the season with two victories. In one of the games, Chris Horrell pitched a no-hitter, which Coach Shannon Blansette said is the first in the school’s history.

Horrell, a senior lefthander, struck out 11 and walked three in the Timberwolves’ 5-0 victory over Hemet in the Newport Elks Tournament Saturday in Hemet.

“The offense was provided by Bobby Bruns, Brian Kawata, Bryce Hara, Paul Wagner, Thomas Washburn (two hits) and Ben Owens (two hits),” Blansette said. “The team played outstanding defense.”

Northwood opened with a 5-1 victory over Sunny Hills. Chris Effler pitched six innings and allowed one run on four hits. Matt Munson pitched the seventh inning. Northwood was led by Kawata, who went 2 for 2 with a two-run homer in the first and Ian Parvin, who was 2 for 3. The team had eight hits.
